In this episode of Kickboxer there's very little kickboxing, but at least we're not subjected to the same plot with Tong Po again. This time David Sloane is in Rio for a fight but ends up breaking up a human trafficking ring. The movie quickly devolves into Sloane and Xian going on a 40 minute murder spree (which I loved). There's so many false finishes the payoff seems pretty low stakes. But it has all silly DTV action tropes I crave, and this really hit the spot.
the movie Mani di pietra
I'm not heavily invested (or invested at all) in the Kickboxer franchise, which is probably why the general lack of actual kickboxing in this movie didn't bother me. After a tentative start, I actually found myself enjoying this weird not quite martial arts film. Mostly because it's not all that conventional. I've seen a few of those in the past week.
Okay so this one is more of an action movie than its predecessors. The funny thing though is that in Sasha Mitchell's first run as David Sloane it was like pulling teeth to get him to fight anyone, and in this one he is shooting dudes left and right. Although this doesn't include the guys that needed it most. It's more fun than 2 but still not very good.
Sasha Mitchell is back! We have a moment where the beginning leans in a bit to the reminder for the viewer that Mitchell is killing it on Step By Step at the moment as Cody Lambert. Thankfully it doesn't last long and the movie finds itself back to being serious.
Roberto Durán Samaniego (born June 16, 1951) is a Panamanian former professional boxer who competed from 1968 to 2001. He held world championships in four weight classes: lightweight, welterweight, light middleweight and middleweight, as well as reigns as the undisputed and lineal lightweight champion, and the lineal welterweight champion.[2] He is also the second boxer to have competed over a span of five decades, the first being Jack Johnson. Durán was known as a versatile, technical brawler and pressure fighter, which earned him the nickname of "Manos de Piedra" ("Hands of Stone") for his formidable punching power and excellent defense.[3]
Roberto Durán was born on June 16, 1951, in Guararé, Panama. His mother, Clara Samaniego, was a native of Guararé, and his father, Margarito Durán Sánchez, was from Arizona, United States, and of Mexican descent.[6] He was raised in the slums of El Chorrillo in the district "La Casa de Piedra" (The House of Stone), in Panama City. He began sparring with experienced boxers at the Neco de La Guardia gymnasium when he was only eight years old.[7]
Durán's life and boxing career are told in the documentary Los puños de una nación ("The Fists of a Nation") by Panamanian filmmaker Pituka Ortega-Heilbron. Durán also appears very briefly during an interview for the documentary The Panama Deception (1992), in which he recounts his experience during the United States invasion of Panama.
Grido di pietra (Cerro Torre: Schrei aus Stein) è un film del 1991 diretto da Werner Herzog, che racconta di una sfida tra alpinisti alla scalata del Cerro Torre, un picco situato nelle Ande tra Argentina e Cile.
In 1980, cameraman Robert Van Der Kar was killed while filming an episode of Magnum P.I. when the low-flying helicopter he was riding in crashed into the Pacific Ocean off of Hawaii. The pilot, Robert Sanders, was injured and his license was suspended for 90 days by the National Transportation Safety Board. That same year, legendary Indian action star Jayan was killed on a movie set while attempting to transfer from a speeding motorcycle to the skids of a low-flying helicopter that crashed on top of him. He was 41.
In 2006, cameraman Roland Schlotzhauer was killed when the helicopter in which he was riding hit a power line and crashed in an Iowa cornfield during filming of a baseball movie called The Final Season.
